HOBOKEN, N.J. (NOVEMBER 12, 2015) –The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team (16-3-1) will be hosting the 2015 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament First and Second Rounds Saturday and Sunday.
HOBOKEN REGIONAL INFOThe Ducks will take on Lesley University in the first match at 5 p.m. at the DeBaun Athletic Complex, followed by Johns Hopkins University battling Bowdoin College at 7:30 p.m. The two winners will meet Sunday at 5 p.m.
SCOUTING REPORTLesley is led by freshman midfielder Jordan Mitchell, who recorded 10 goals and 10 assists, while starting only eight games. Head coach Paul Vasconcelos was selected as the New England Collegiate Conference coach of the year.
LAST TIME OUTStevens was able to top Ithaca College 2-1 in the Empire 8 Conference Championship last Saturday, with freshman
Zisi Komar claiming most valuable player honors. Senior
Kristen Goncalves and Komar recorded goals, while sophomore
Lindsey Mahnken made eight saves.
AWARD SEASONJunior
Raba Nassif was selected as E8 offensive player of the year Tuesday, while Komar was tabbed the conference's rookie of the year. Additionally, head coach
Jeff Parker and his staff were chosen as the coaching staff of the year. In total, 10 student-athletes were chosen All-Empire 8 on the first, second or honorable mention team.
NATIONAL LEADERSNassif is tops nationally in assists (17) and assists per game (.89), while Komar is fourth with eight game-winning goals. On the team side, the Ducks are sixth in assists per game (3.20), seventh in total assists (64), eighth in points (216) and ninth in goals (76).
HISTORY LESSONThis is the Ducks eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, with a 5-6-2 record in tournament games. Their last appearance was in 2011, when they fell to Westfield State University in penalty kicks in the first round.
