HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 11, 2015) – Junior
Erika Wilcox scored two goals but the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team was knocked off by St. John Fisher College 11-7 in Empire 8 conference action Saturday.
The Ducks fell to 8-3, 4-1 in conference play, while Fisher is now 7-4, 3-1 in the E8.
Stevens got on the board just 1:14 in, as sophomore
Kathleen Kalbian scored, but that was answered a minute and 36 seconds later when senior Lindsey Shoales knotted the contest at one. The Cardinals went on to score the three markers in a seven minute span, but senior
Caitlyn Hughes was able to stop the run with a tally. After senior Samantha Barton reestablished the three goal margin, sophomore
Caroline DeLuca scored with two minutes remaining to cut the deficit to two going into the break.
Freshman
Cami Santor scored 1:13 into the second half, but Barton countered a little over three minutes later. The Ducks tied the game at six after freshman
Julianna Ricci and Wilcox scored with 18:32 remaining, but the Cardinals went on a pivotal 4-0 run behind goals from Barton, freshman Lexi Peebles and a pair from junior Sierra Badger. Wilcox scored with 7:48 left to attempt a comeback, but Badger added an insurance tally with 46 seconds left to give the visitors the final 11-7 advantage.
The Ducks were able to force 14 turnovers in the contest and held a 20-16 edge in ground balls. Ricci had five ground balls while Kalbian filled the stats sheet with four shots, three ground balls, three caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls. Sophomore
Madison Annitto led the way with four ground balls while junior
Catie Shelton and freshman
Stephanie Schnelzer combined to make six saves.
Badger and Barton each had two goals, while Shoales recorded four ground balls. Freshman Molly Maguire made seven saves in the victory.
Stevens is back home Wednesday as they take on Arcadia at 7 p.m.
