Kathleen Kalbian and freshman
Cami Santor each scored three goals to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's across team past Alfred University 16-2.
The Ducks ran their winning streak to three and moved their record to 11-3, 6-1 E8 while the Saxons dropped to 2-8, 0-5 E8.
Alfred opened the scoring 4:11 into the game, on an unassisted tally by Kaitlyn Button. Stevens answered back 2:22 later sophomore
Caroline DeLuca scored on a free position shot. After junior
Erika Wilcox corralled the ensuing draw, Santor came down and gave the visitors a 2-1 lead 53 seconds after the first goal. Once again, the Ducks took control of the draw and netted a third marker in under a minute, this time from senior
Caitlyn Hughes.
The next seven minutes went by before freshman
Julianna Ricci notched a goal from Kalbian, but the Saxons answered with 10:56 left as Button added her second of the game to cut the deficit to two. Kalbian and Santor scored 59 apart to give the Ducks a 6-2 halftime lead. Stevens had 24 shots in the opening 30 minutes while scooping up 14 ground balls and had a 9-0 edge in draw controls.
Hughes, Wilcox, DeLuca and Santor all scored within the first six minutes of the second period with DeLuca and Wilcox also tallying assists. Senior
Andrea Dragoni and sophomore
Jess Leiby finished the scoring for the Ducks, with Leiby netting a man-up goal.
Stevens held a 45-3 edge in shots, while finishing with 24 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. Kalbian finished with five points on seven shots and a game high nine draw controls while Wilcox had three points, 11 shots and five ground balls. Six players finished with multiple goals and 10 different players registered a point in the contest.
Button had two both goals for the Saxons while contributing two ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers while Shannon Gray made 20 saves.
The Ducks return home to take on Farmingdale State on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
