HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 31, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team snapped its four-game losing streak Thursday in a dominant 13-6 win over Stockton University in Hoboken.
The win moves Stevens' record closer to .500 at 3-4, while the loss was Stockton's (7-1) first blemish of the season.
Senior
Erika Wilcox led all scorers with five goals in her fourth five-goal scoring effort of the season. Junior
Kathleen Kalbian scored three, while junior
Mariel Haubrich scored twice. Freshman
Mackenzie Metzler won three times off the draw in her first career start, and sophomore
Victoria Alvarez caused a pair of turnovers.
The Ducks outshot Stockton 26-15, including a 19-12 margin in shots on goal, and scooped-up 17 ground balls to the Ospreys' 10.
Stockton grabbed the early lead with a goal in the opening minutes, but it was all Stevens from there as the Ducks sored five unanswered over the next 20 minutes to take a 5-1 lead.
Sophomore
Bridget Reed started the run with a free-position goal in what was her first score of the season, before Kalbian got into it with one of her own to give Stevens its first lead of the game. Metzler followed during the 17 minute mark with a free-position goal, followed by a pair of woman-up goals from junior
Laura Roberts and Kalbian.
Stockton ended the drought with seven minutes to go in the half, but Wilcox responded four minutes later to give the Ducks the 6-2 advantage heading into the half.
Goals from Wilcox and Haubrich to start the second ballooned the lead to six, however Stockton responded by scoring four of the next five to get within two with 11:13 remaining.
It's as close as they would get the rest of the day though as a pair of goals from Wilcox over the next four minutes built the lead back to four, before Kalbian and Wilcox put it away for good with a goal each in the final two minutes of regulation.
The Ducks will continue their homestand this weekend starting Saturday at 11 a.m. against Houghton College, followed by a Sunday matchup with Alfred University at 11 a.m.
