Men’s Swimming opens 2017-18 season with decisive victory over Drew

  • Short Story: The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team totaled seven individual victories and two relay wins en route to a season-opening triumph over hosting Drew University.

Top Performers
  • The Ducks opened the day with a first and second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Junior Sam Fuller, sophomore Tyler Zanki, junior Vincent Tavoletti and freshman Theodore Jagodits touched the wall in 3:32.46, finishing eight seconds ahead teammates Blake Holland, Chris Rudel, Matthew Shaw and Peyton Ouano.
  • Rudel followed up his performance in the opening race with first place points in the 1000-yard freestyle race. The sophomore touched the wall seven seconds ahead of classmate Daniel Rosenberger, with a time of 10:16.71.
  • Fuller and Shaw each finished first in their respective freestyle races. Fuller edged Jagodits by four-tenths of a second in the 200 and Shaw outtouched senior Matthew Burk in the 50. Each earned nine points towards Stevens' team total.
  • Tavoletti earned first-place points for the Ducks with a victory in the 100-yard butterfly. The junior edge freshman Kurt von Autenried by less than two seconds.
  • After a second place finish earlier in the day, Burk earned his first win of the 2017-18 season with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle race. The senior completed the event in 49.06 seconds.
  • Fuller picked up his third victory of the day with a 10-second win in the 500-yard freestyle. The Severna Park, Maryland native won the race with a time of 4:51.15. Chris Rudel placed second.
  • The Ducks finished 1-2 in the 100-yard breaststroke as Zanki and Christopher Ludeke finished ahead of Drew's Mack Fox. Zanki won the race in 59.75 seconds.
  • In the last event of the day, Stevens won its second relay event as Jagodits, Burk, Ludeke, and von Autenried finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:28.15. Each of the four individual times were under 22.50 seconds, with von Autenried finishing the final leg of the race in 21.56 seconds.
