ALFRED, N.Y. (April 2, 2017) – Eight goals in the game's first ten minutes powered the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team to a 21-0 victory over Alfred University Sunday in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.
Eleven Ducks tallied goals as Stevens won its third straight to improve to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Junior

Laura Roberts and freshman
Emily Shanklin each scored three goals to lead the offense and senior
Mariel Haubrich tallied a career-high eight assists. Freshman
Kyra Bednarski had three goals and two assists and classmate
Hannah Condren added two goals and two assists. Sophomore
Mackenzie Metzler and freshman
Tara Ravoli each found the back of the net twice, and senior
Kathleen Kalbian, juniors
Julianna Ricci and
Bridget Reed, and freshman
Brianne Salera each had a point to round out the Stevens scoring.

Stephanie Schnelzer recorded a pair of saves in earning her eighth win of the year. Sophomore
Alex Samper made five saves in the second half as the Ducks posted their first shutout win since an 18-0 victory on April 2, 2016.
"This was a great team victory," head coach
Celine Cunningham said. "Our defense continues to play well and I am glad to see all our freshman step and contribute this weekend. It's nice to see so many assists in the box score - it means great team play. Mariel has great vision and is able to connect with her teammates."
The Saxons fell to 2-6 on the season and 0-3 in Empire 8 play. Shannon Gray made eight saves in taking the loss for Alfred,
Defensively, Metzler earned four draw controls, leading all players, while helping the Ducks gain an 18-3 advantage. The sophomore midfielder also caused two turnovers and picked up two ground balls. Kalbian also impacted the defensive side of the game, earning three draw controls, causing one turnover and picking up two ground balls. The Ducks were 2-for-4 on free position shots and held Alfred off the board on two free position shot attempts.
The Ducks outshot Alfred 39-8 and were a perfect 12-for-12 on clear attempts.
Metzler tallied her first goal of the game just 21 seconds into the game after
Victoria Alvarez took possession of the opening draw control. Roberts and Bednarski scored 39 seconds apart to push the lead to three. Condren extended the lead to four before Roberts buried a goal with the Ducks up a player after Martina Lewis' yellow card to give Stevens a five-goal lead. Goals from Bednarski, Santor and Shanklin opened the lead to nine before the 10:00 mark of the first half.
Stevens would add five more goals before intermission, taking a 13-0 lead at the break on Salera's third goal of the season.
Ricci's eighth of the year opened the second-half scoring for Stevens. The Ducks would add seven more to their total in reaching the 20-goal mark for the first time this season.
