ELMIRA, N.Y. (April 23, 2017)  – Sophomore Christine LaRochelle spun her second shutout of the season, senior Emily Sellitti collected four hits and the Stevens Institute of Technology softball team split with Elmira College (5-0, 3-4) Sunday afternoon.

Junior Olivia Gemma drove in a pair of runs for the Ducks, who improved 23-15 on the year and 8-6 in Empire 8 play. It's the fourth consecutive season with 23 wins or more for the softball program.

Emily Carlin drove in all four runs for the Soaring Eagles, who moved to 8-11 and 2-10 in conference action.

Stevens 5 Elmira 0
In game one, Christine LaRochelle scattered three hits and struck out four as the Ducks defeated Elmira, 5-0, for its third consecutive victory.

LaRochelle (11-4), the tall left-hander retired eight consecutive batters in the middle innings and did not allow more than one baserunner in any inning. The win was her 11th of the year and moved the starter into fifth place on the single-season list.

Stevens got on the board in the third against Emily Carlin (2-6). Gina Schnecker reached on a one-out error by shortstop Olivia Harnois. Samantha Schattin reached on a fielder's choice and Schnecker was safe on Carolyn Corcoran's error at second. After Farryl Groder reached on a fielder's choice, Emily Sellitti smacked a single to left center for the game's first run.

The Ducks added to their total in the fifth. Groder led off with a single. After Sellitti grounded out, Corinne Loncar singled up the middle to score Groder. After Olivia Gemma flied out, junior Cara Napolitano and senior Amanda DiLeo connected for back-to-back singles to score Loncar. Napolitano would score the third run of the frame when Harnois mishandeld Julia DeCandia's grounder.

Schnecker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh to provide the game's final margin.

Elmira 4 Stevens 3
In game two, Elmira rallied for two runs with two outs in the fifth inning to force a split of Sunday's doubleheader with a 4-3 victory.

Olivia Harnois led off with a single off Marissa Cappello (6-8). After Carolyn Corcoran popped up to third, Maddy Johnson singled to Cappello. Chelsea Storch sacrificed the runners over to second and third. Emily Carlin drove the runners home with a single to center.

Stevens had gone in front the fourth. Trailing 2-0, Emily Sellitti led off with a single down the left field line off Elmira starter Katie McDougal. Corinne Loncar singled and both runners moved up on a passed ball. Olivia Gemma tied the game with a long double to left center, scoring Sellitti and Loncar. McDougal settled down and retired Katherine Tirabassi and Gina DeOliveira, but Victoria Kapp reached the Elmira starter for an RBI single to give the Ducks a 3-2 lead.

Carlin (3-6) relieved McDougal and retired Samantha Schattin to end the inning. The Elmira pitcher kept Elmira in the game, scattering two hits over 3 1-3 innings to earn the win.

Up Next: The Ducks close out the 2017 regular season with a non-conference doubleheader with No. 7 Moravian College Tuesday.
