McCue Returns to Stevens as Assistant AD for Communication and Events

HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 2, 2017) – Jon McCue, assistant sports information coordinator at Kean University, has been named the Assistant Athletic Director for Communication and Events for the Stevens Institute of Technology's intercollegiate athletic department, Director of Athletics Russell Rogers announced. McCue began his career at Castle Point as assistant sports information director from 2009-13.

"I am very excited to have someone of Jon's caliber joining our team at Stevens," said Rogers. "He is quite talented among a broad range of areas within athletic communications and has extensive knowledge of a variety of sports. More than that, I know how good a person Jon is and how committed he is to the student-athlete experience from his previous tenure on Castle Point. This is a great day for Stevens Athletics and I look forward to helping Jon enhance our athletic communications program in any way possible."

"I am thrilled to be able to return to Stevens," said McCue. "It is an incredible place, where our student-athletes accumulate amazing achievements both on the field and in the classroom. It is an honor to work with them. The athletics staff is among the best in the nation, and I look forward to rekindling many of the relationships and friendships I enjoyed here."

McCue covered everything from National Championships to Hurricane Sandy in his four years with the sports information department at Stevens, and volunteered as an assistant baseball coach with the Ducks. He was also heavily involved on the events side of the department, helping host 11 NCAA Championship events and over 100 postseason contests.

At Kean he continued on that path, covering 10 different teams on runs to the NCAA Tournament. He was instrumental in reorganizing the sports information department, implementing postgame highlight video production and took on numerous extra tasks outside the traditional SID realm. Through Kean contacts he has also earned a recurring role as the official statistician of the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium each year.

Cougars and Ducks have been featured in Sports Illustrated, SportsCenter and the front page of NCAA.com under McCue's watch, as well as numerous local media outlets. At the time of his departure, Kean was ranked No. 1 in the NJAC social media index leaderboard.

McCue is active in numerous College Sports Information Directors of America agencies, including the mentorship program and the job seekers committee. He was awarded a CoSIDA Convention Attendance Grant in 2016.

Prior to his last stint at Stevens, he worked at his alma mater, Rutgers University-New Brunswick. McCue served as a public address announcer for soccer, volleyball, and softball and worked with ESPN and ABC's coverage of Scarlet Knight football games.

McCue earned both a master's in communication and information studies (MCIS) and bachelor's degree in communication from Rutgers in 2010 and 2008, respectively. He was a five-time letterwinner as a starting pitcher for the Scarlet Knights baseball program and amassed a record of 8-1 before his career was cut short due to injury. He finished his undergraduate degree in 3.5 years, was a five-time Big East Academic All-Star, a Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society member and the 2008 Rutgers Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

He and his fiancé currently live in Hoboken.
