No. 17 Women’s Soccer shuts out Sage to open E8 play

Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. (September 16, 2017)  – Sophomore Gabby Saade netted a pair of goals as the No. 17 ranked Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team blanked The Sage Colleges 4-0 Sunday to open Empire 8 Conference play.

"Thought we had some good moments and also thought we struggled at times today," head coach Jeff Parker said. "Always want to get conference play started on the right foot and we did a better job of doing that in the second half. Important that our entire group contributed to this afternoon as we are going to need that consistently if we're going to be the team we're aiming to grow into."

Sophomore Julia Panko added a second-half tally and junior Erin Mellett added her first career goal for the Ducks, who won their third straight game to improve to 3-1-1 overall. Senior Lindsey Manhken made a pair of saves to earn her third win of the season. Freshman Erika McCarthy relieved Manhken in the 83rd minute for her first collegiate action.

Emma Augustine made nine saves for Sage, who fell to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in its first season of E8 competition.

Saade opened the scoring in the 14th minute, taking a pass from Panko and firing a crossing strike passed Augustine's outstretched arms. It was the 11th career goal for the West Windsor, New Jersey native. Stevens would fire another 11 shots after the opening tally, but was unable to find the back of the net. The Ducks outshot the Gators 30-3 on the day, including a decisive 14-0 margin over the final 45 minutes.

Panko opened the second-half scoring in the 54th minute, converting on a crossing shot, with Saade getting credit for the assist. The duo would hook up for the third time just 10 minutes later, when Saade found the left corner of the net for her second goal of the match. Mellett's marker in the 66th minute provided the final margin.
