Schaad’s Hat Trick Leads No. 17 Women’s Soccer Past Montclair 4-0

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (September 20, 2017) – Freshman Taylor Schaad came off the bench and netted the first hat trick of her career as the No. 17 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team topped Montclair State University 4-0 on Wednesday night. Lindsey Mahnken earned her third-straight shutout for the Ducks with three saves.

  • Schaad's first goal came at 39:35 on a shot into the upper right corner. It broke a tight, scoreless tie late in the opening period
  • The Duck defense allowed just one first-half shot and a total of three all game
  • After 20 more tense minutes, Julia Panko scored to give Stevens some breathing room in the 74th minute.
  • One minute later, Schaad scored with the help of Gabby Saade's through ball to put the Ducks in the driver's seat
  • Schaad earned the hat trick by running through the defense for another unassisted goal at 81:25
  • The final shot count was 19-3. Stevens also won the CK count 6-3.
  • Molly Barrow made five saves in the game for MSU
  • The Ducks have not allowed a goal in 298 minutes of game time

"It was a good result against a program with a tournament pedigree," said head coach Jeff Parker. "The score probably flattered us a bit, but we got some quality finishes in the second half that gave us the final margin. We had some solid performances and we have to continue to try to be better collectively. We have to get back to work as we are taking on a Hartwick side that will be looking to get a result on DeBaun Saturday."

The Ducks will return to the DeBaun Athletic Complex at 2 p.m. on Saturday to tangle with Hartwick College in Empire 8 action.
