PITTSFORD, N.Y. (October 20, 2018)  – Sophomore
Skylar Migliaccio and senior
Hannah Silvestri each found the back of the net, but the Stevens Institute of Technology Field Hockey team fell to St. John Fisher College 3-2 Saturday in an Empire 8 Conference matchup at Growney Stadium.
Bre Socker scored on a three-on-one breakaway in the 58th minute proved to be the game-winner for the Cardinals, who improved to 12-4 on the year and moved into second place in the conference at 5-1. Lauren Fazio recorded the other two Fisher markers.
Freshman
Emily Franco made six saves and classmate
Kila Eadie recorded her second collegiate assist for the Ducks, who fell to 9-6. Stevens is tied with Hartwick College at 4-2, although the Ducks hold the tiebreaker between the teams after topping the Hawks on Sept. 22.
Stevens had a chance to force overtime on the final play of the game. The Ducks earned a penalty corner with time expiring. Migliaccio took the corner, but junior
Michaela Thompson's shot was kicked away from danger by Ashley Maynard, thwarting a comeback attempt. St. John Fisher was able to clear the circle to close out the contest. Maynard made four saves on the afternoon.
Turning Point
- With the teams tied at two, Gianna Palma played a long pass to the far post, where Socker redirected it past Franco for what proved to be the winning tally.
Inside the Numbers
- Fisher held a 17-15 edge in shots and a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal. Stevens held a 10-8 margin in shots in the second half.
- The Ducks took eight penalty corners against seven for the Cardinals.
- Lauren Fazio led all players with eight shots and five shots on goal. Migliaccio led Stevens with four shots, with three registering on goal.
- Both Migliaccio and Silvestri have set career highs in goals and points.
- Maegan McDonald made a defensive save for the Cardinals.
From the Sidelines
- "Proud of the way we fought today against an opponent we will likely see again. It was a good back and forth battle, which prepares us well for the end of our regular season and beyond."
Up Next
- Field Hockey remains in upstate New York for a neutral-site game against Elmira College Sunday afternoon.
- The game was originally scheduled for Oct. 6 in Elmira, but was moved because of poor field conditions. The contest will instead be played at St. John Fisher's Growney Stadium.
- The Ducks are 10-2 all-time against the Soaring Eagles, including a 7-2 victory last season in Hoboken.
- A victory clinches a spot in the conference tournament. A victory against Elmira combined with a Harwick loss in one of its final two contests secures the third seed in the postseason tournament.Â
- Should Stevens fall to Elmira, the Ducks will await the result of the Hartwick-Utica game on Oct. 24 to determine the necessary result against Sage on Oct. 27.Â
