Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Stevens Athletic Communications

No. 21/14 Women’s Soccer Falls at No. 24/13 Swarthmore, 1-0

Ducks can't overcome early deficit and fall at nationally-ranked Swarthmore.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. (September 13, 2019)  – Despite a 25-18 advantage in shots, a third-minute goal proved to be the difference as No. 21/14 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer fell to No. 24/13 Swarthmore College Friday evening in a non-conference fixture at Clothier Field.

Swarthmore's Lulu Wilson played a long ball down the left side of the field in an attempt to spring Sydney Covitz free through the attacking third. Goalkeeper Izzy DiDario came off her line to thwart the chance and sent the ball out of bounds to keep possession with the Garnet.

Seneca Kinn-Gurzo took a pair of steps before throwing the ball back into play. A Swarthmore player attempted a header just outside the six, however, the ball sailed over her head. After the attempted header, Kim Kockenmeister jumped in the air and connected for a header with her back to the net and sent the ball over DiDario and tucked neatly inside the near post.

Despite matching a season-high with 25 attempts, the lone marker stood up as the Ducks were unable to solve Chantal Reyes, who made seven saves. Swarthmore improved to 3-1 and have won both of the two meetings between the programs.

Senior Gabby Saade had a match-high six shots and joined sophomore Ally Wanzor and freshman Catalina Abusada in connecting for two shots on net for. DiDario and junior Erika McCarthy combined for five saves for the Ducks, who fell to 2-2-1.
