Schenectady, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2021) – Junior
Natalie Logan assisted on the first goal and scored the second, but the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team could not hold on as they fell in overtime for the first time this season, losing on the road at Union College 3-2 Saturday to close out the regular season.
The Ducks led 1-0 early and 2-1 for the majority of the third and fourth quarters, but Union (7-10) was able to score in the 55th minute to tie things up and find the back of the cage less than one minute into the first overtime
period to hand Stevens just its fourth loss of the season.
Less than a minute into the first overtime period, the Dutchwomen were able to earn a penalty corner the first action of extra time.
After Jill Bove's original shot was saved by
Emily Franco, Grace Krebs collected the rebound and was able to rip a shot into the bottom left of the cage to give Union the 3-2 win.
Fifth-year
Allison Buffenbarger got the Ducks on the board first in the eighth minute of the game when Logan passed the ball into the middle of the circle and Buffenbarger finished for the fourth time this season.
The Dutchwomen tied things up with less than 10 seconds left in the first quarter when Sophie Ruhl was able to deflect a pass by Caroline Werner just past Franco in goal to tie things up at 1-1.
The score remained tied until the 29th minute of game action as first-year
Makenna Quigley ripped a pass from the right side of the circle into the middle for Logan to finish into the left side of the cage.
After a scoreless third quarter, Union's Ella Brinkley substituted into the game and made her impact almost immediately as she spent just 12 seconds on the field before collecting a rebound in front of the goal and knotting the score once again at 2-2 in the 55th minute.
