Women’s Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw at King’s

Ducks hold King's to just two shots to extend unbeaten streak to five

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (October 9, 2021)  – Senior Izzy DiDario marshaled her third clean sheet of the season as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with King's College Saturday in a MAC Freedom match at McCarthy Stadium.

With the draw, Stevens moved to 4-4-3 on the year and 2-0-1 in conference play. The tie extended the Ducks' unbeaten streak in regular-season conference play to 22. The Monarchs moved to 2-5-1 on the season and to 0-1-1 in league play. The Ducks' three draws are the most for the program since 2017. The Ducks are unbeaten in their last five matches.

The Ducks controlled play throughout the match, spending 72% of their possession time in the attacking third. Stevens fired off 29 shots, including 12 on target, while holding the Monarchs to just two. Over the Ducks' last two matches, opponents have combined for just three shots. The Monarchs' two-shot output was the lowest for the program since Sept. 11, 2019, which also marked the last time King's was held without a shot on target.

DiDario did not face a shot in posting her third solo shutout of the season. The Scotch Plains, New Jersey native lowered her season goals-against average to 0.94, which ranks fourth in the MAC Freedom. Her career mark of 0.66 ranks 11th among all active Division III goalkeepers. Tara Bender made 12 saves for Kings in earning her first career draw.

Turning Point
  • The Ducks earned the only corner of either overtime period in the 103rd minute. First-year Abby Harris' try was snagged by Bender for the only shot on-goal for either side in the extra time.

Inside the Numbers
  • Stevens held a 29-2 advantage in shots, including a 12-0 margin in shots on target. The Ducks have outshot 10 of their 11 opponents this season. Sophomore Amelia Rehrig took five attempts to lead all-student-athletes.
  • The Ducks held the Monarchs starters without a shot.
  • Stevens had a 7-0 advantage in corners and have totaled 17 over the last two matches.
  • Head coach Jeff Parker remains at 299 career victories, with 289 coming at Stevens.

Unsung Heroes
  • The Ducks have a team GAA of 0.846, which ranks third in the conference. The Ducks' defensive unit has conceded just two goals over their last 565:32.

From the Pitch - Senior Taylor Whitlock
  • "Our defense played a great 110 minutes without allowing any shots on frame. Even though we were able to get forward and had 29 shots, it was unfortunate that one ball did not find the back of the net."

From the Sidelines - Head Coach Jeff Parker
  • "We were unable to find the back of the net this afternoon, giving our performance an unfinished feeling. [We] did some good things; we were solid with many of our rotations and didn't surrender much of anything, but sometimes the ball doesn't go in. Was a day where the home side played for a point and managed to get it. We'll have to manage a quick turnaround and get right back at it Tuesday night on DeBaun. We'll review and prepare to help improve our performance."

Up Next
  • Women's soccer returns to the DeBaun Athletic Complex on Oct. 12 for a key MAC Freedom matchup with Arcadia University.
  • The Ducks defeated the Knights 1-0 in double overtime on Sept. 28, 2019 to snap Arcadia's 10-match unbeaten streak in the only prior meeting between the teams.
