Women's Soccer Ends Regular Season with Win Over Arcadia

The Ducks have clinched a spot in the MAC Freedom Tournament

GLENSIDE, Pa. (Oct. 26, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team defeated Arcadia University by a score of 4-1 in a MAC Freedom matchup on the road, Wednesday night. The Ducks scored four second half goals and graduate student Rachel Rouse scored twice including the game-winner to propel Stevens to victory.

The Ducks fell behind early in the first half. The Knights scored in the sixth minute to take the early 1-0 advantage. Despite trailing early, Stevens was able to control the play in the first 45 minutes. They outshot Arcadia by a total of 6 to 2 and earned three corners to the Knights' zero. Their pressure was not enough to produce an equalizer in the half and the Ducks trailed 1-0 at the break.

Stevens came out swinging to start the second and found the equalizer they had been searching for just three minutes into the action. Sophomore Olivia Castro tied the game 1-1 and was assisted by Rouse. Then Rouse took over the game and scored two goals over the span of two minutes to take and extend the lead. She have the Ducks a 2-1 advantage on an unassisted effort in the 51st minute and then in the 53rd she made the score 3-1 on a goal that was assisted by senior Olivia Panko. Stevens' final goal came in the 65th minute when Panko received the ball from junior Jana Mucci to make the score 4-1 and close out the game.

The Ducks improved to 7-7-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play with the win and the Knights fell to 7-9-2 overall and 3-4 in conference action.

Inside the Numbers
  • Sophomore Zoe Hindman and junior Dana Perry each played 45 minutes in net and each made one save.
  • Stevens' defense held Arcadia to just three total shots in the game.
  • The Ducks have now won three-straight games over the Knights dating back to 2019.

From the Sidelines - Head Coach Jeff Parker
  • "Important result for our clan tonight. We needed to make a couple of changes at the break after giving up a goal against the run of play in the first. We weren't getting what we needed out of our chances and the first eight minutes after the break were a direct result of accountability to each other. We decided that we were going to control the narrative and played some inspirational football. Proud of the courage it took to change the environment and looking forward to taking the field again in the MAC Freedom Semifinals, Wednesday."

Up Next
  • Stevens concluded their regular season and will move on to the MAC Freedom Tournament. The Ducks' seed is not yet set, but they will begin tournament play on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
