Softball Clinches Postseason Spot with Split against Arcadia

A 3-1 win in game two sent the Ducks to the MAC Freedom Tournament

WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (April 30, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team clinched a spot in the postseason with their game two win over MAC Freedom opponent Arcadia at home on Saturday, April 30. Stevens fell in game one 8-3 and bounced back to win 3-1 in game two.

Junior Erin Kreis (7-8) gave up just one earned run and struck out three batters to get the win for the Ducks in game two. Sophomore Jessica Guerrero hit a home run and had two RBI in game one and senior Meg Halloran also had two RBI on the day, going 2 for 6. Stevens finished the season 15-17 overall and 9-7 in conference play. The Knights finished 29-8 overall and 13-3 in conference.

Arcadia took control of game one early, scoring seven runs in the first inning. Stevens attempted to cut into the lead in the third when a Guerrero hit a two-run shot to center field, but the Knights answered. Junior Megan Suoy hit a solo blast in the fourth to make the score 8-2.

The Ducks added two late runs in the sixth and seventh, but it was not enough and they fell 8-4. First-year Kaitlin Smith was credited with the loss from the circle and sophomore Juliana Presto (20-3) earned the win.

Game two was much more competitive and it was scoreless through the first two inning until Stevens broke through. Halloran picked up a two RBI single to give the Ducks an early 2-0 lead. The Knights cut into the lead in the top of the fifth to make the score 2-1 and then graduate student Amanda Delorme came up big in the bottom of the inning. She singled through the right side to make the score 3-1 and ensure the win for her team.

Kreis pitched five innings in the win and senior Brenna Dolan (9-5) received the loss for Arcadia.

Up Next: Stevens is set to compete in the MAC Freedom tournament, starting on Thursday, May 5, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The Ducks are the No. 4 seed.
