HOBOKEN, N.J. (Sept. 1, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team opened their season at home with a 3-2 loss against No. 17 Messiah University. It was tightly contested game with each side holding the lead at one point in the game and graduate student

Stevens struck quickly in the first half. Rouse tucked the ball into the back of the net on a shot just outside the mouth of the goal in the eighth minute of the game. She was assisted on the play by junior
Amelia Rehrig. The Ducks were able to control play for most of the first 45 minutes and took their 1-0 lead into halftime.
Messiah began to make a run to start the second half of action, scoring in the 48th minute to tie the game at one goal apiece. They added another goal when Thea Neimond settled the ball off a corner kick and found the back of the net to give the Falcons their first lead of the game in the 59th minute. Their final goal came 16 minutes later and Stevens trailed 3-1 with 15 minutes remaining.
Despite, trailing late the Ducks refused to quit. In the 89th minute, junior
Elaine Kooiker served the ball into the box on a corner and Panko was on the other end, knocking the ball into the Messiah net and cutting the lead to just one. With just 46 seconds remaining, Stevens was unable to find an equalizer and fell to 0-1-0 to start the season. Messiah improved to 1-0-0.
"It was a great home opener for our team and I think we really came out strong. Playing a good opponent raised our intensity, and I am very excited to see how we do for the rest of the season," said Panko after the game.

- Stevens led the game in shots 10 to 7, but Messiah led in shots on goal with five to the Ducks' three
- Messiah held the advantage in corner kicks at 5 to 4.
