HOBOKEN, N.J. (Sept. 13, 2022) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat MAC Freedom opponent DeSales University in five sets at home, Tuesday night. Sophomore
Cleo Shannon set a career-high with 20 kills and the Ducks remained undefeated in conference play.
Junior
Liz Patterson finished just behind Shannon with 16 kills and added 21 digs and two blocks as Stevens won by a score of 3-2 (24-26, 25-22, 20-25, 25-13, 8-15). Sophomore
Bailey Axelrad led the team with 26 digs and tallied six assists. Senior
Enkhsanaa Enkhbayar totaled a season-high 27 assists.
The Bulldogs won the first set over the Ducks in a battle 26-24. The first set saw ten total ties and four lead changes and both sides went back and forth. Stevens held an 18-13 lead and then DeSales went on a run, winning 13 of the final 19 points and putting the Ducks in an early 1-0 hole.
The Ducks answered with a 25-22 win in the second to tie the match at one set apiece. They jumped out to a quick 10-4 advantage and never looked back, leading for the entirety of the second set. Shannon led Stevens with six kills in the second. Both sides then traded the next two sets. The Bulldogs won the third and the Ducks won the fourth.
Stevens trailed 5-4 early in the fifth but then went on a 5-0 run to take command of the set. They never looked back after that and closed out the match with a 15-8 win. The Ducks improved to 7-2 and 2-0 in conference and the Bulldogs fell to 4-4 on the season an 0-1 in conference action.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens led the match in every statistical category except blocks.
- Junior Maggie Ellio finished the match with a season-high six digs and added seven kills and three blocks
- The Ducks have now won three of their last four matches against the Bulldogs

- Stevens hosts the Castle Point Challenge this weekend. The tournament spans two days, Friday, Sept. 16, and Saturday, Sept. 17. The Ducks start the tournament on Friday night against Randolph-Macon College at 8 p.m.
