Men's Swimming Defeats both Hartwick and Scranton Saturday

The Ducks improve to 3-1.

ONEONTA, N.Y. (November 18, 2023) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team competed against Scranton and Hartwick Saturday at the Hartwick Triangular. The Ducks defeated Hartwick 154-134 and took down Scranton 174.5-116.5.

Stevens improves to 12-0 all-time against former Empire 8 foe Hartwick.

The Ducks are now 1-0 against the Royals, winning the first ever meeting between the two teams.

Top Performers

  • Sophomore Angel Velasquez, graduate Derick Miller, sophomore Amedeo Bove, sophomore Will Stibor placed first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:37.86.
  • Junior Edward Platonov swam a 1:46.91 in the 200-yard freestyle, which ranks tops in the MAC.
  • Velasquez also finished first in the 100-yard backstroke, earning a time of 54.30. Senior Darius Truong placed second with a time of 55.67.
  • Miller placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.17), while sophomore Lukas Mikulenas came in third (1:02.06). Miller improved his score and is now sixth in the MAC.
  • Stibor placed first in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at 22.27. Sophomore Leo Timmerman finished second (22.36).
  • Stevens claimed the top three spots in the 100-yard freestyle, as Platonov came in first (47.87), Stibor placed second (48.96), and Miller came in third (49.23).
  • Junior Ryan Ward placed in the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 1:59.95.
  • Mikulenas also came in second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.31).
  • First-year Patrick Cortelli claimed first place in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 4:53.79.
  • Stibor, Miller, Velasquez, and Platonov finished first with a time of 3:15.53 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

For the Opponents

  • For Scranton, Jimmy O'Malley placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle. He also claimed second in the 200-yard butterfly. 
  • For Hartwick, Hassan Abdelwahed claimed first in both the 100 and 200-yard breast. Mikey Schultz claimed the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly.
