Women's Soccer Blanks DeSales, 4-0 In MAC Freedom Action

Center Valley, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory over DeSales University in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.

Alina Friz tallied a goal and an assist for the Ducks (6-4-2, 2-0-0 MAC Freedom) as DeSales fell to 4-9-1, 1-1-0 MAC Freedom.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens goalkeeper Kenny Donley was pressed into action early, making a stop on Emma Ribiero just 2:08 into the contest. The Bulldogs did a great job in the early stages, holding Stevens to just three shots over the first 30 minutes. The Ducks, who did not register a shot on goal until the 43rd minute, broke through for the game's first goal with 2:23 left before halftime. Off a corner kick, Luciana Rodrigues served in a ball that glanced off Friz's head and went in off a Bulldog defender to make it 1-0.

The Ducks doubled the Bulldogs in shots 6-3 over the first 45 minutes of action.

Stevens wasted little time, scoring twice in the first 6:36 of the second half, with the two markers coming 72 seconds apart. Angela Dinh won a loose ball in the attacking third and fed Friz. The newcomer slipped a pass to fellow first-year Sophia Murphy, who beat the goalkeeper to double the lead. The Ducks regained possession off the restart, and Gab Aloe sent a long pass into the box. Nicole Angelini took a touch, beat a defender, and fired far post, extending the lead to 3-0.

The guests nearly added to the lead in the 62nd minute, as Kaitlyn Pettit was denied off a corner kick. Pettit was stopped again in the 67th minute, with Stevens' defense buckling down and surrendering no shots in the second stanza. The Ducks closed out the scoring in the 75th minute, as Lauren Alley used a solid individual effort to cap off the scoring. After receiving the ball on the right flank, Alley beat a defender 1-on-1 before dribbling past a second one. The junior blasted a shot from 25 yards out, beating the goalkeeper high to give Stevens the 4-0 advantage.

FROM THE FIELD
"That's the first game that we haven't shown up for about the first 25 minutes. We spoke about winning individual battles and that didn't really happen in the first half. Second half was a great response.  We played the football we have been playing of late and with that goals will always come. Some times you need a bit of a wake up call." - Head Coach Stuart Dick.

UP NEXT
The Ducks return home next Saturday as they host Delaware Valley University at 2 pm.
