Wnorowski's Brace Leads Women's Soccer in 5-0 Win Over Mount Saint Vincent

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team lit up the scoreboard with a season-high five goals in a 5-0 in over the University of Mount Saint Vincent Wednesday night from the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior Sarah Wnorowski set the stage for the evening with a brace in the opening nine minutes for Stevens (4-4-2), one coming unassisted and one coming of a rebound from an initial shot by graduate student Nicole Angelini. Less than four minutes after Wnorowski's second, junior Lauren Alley gave the Ducks a 3-0 lead with her team-best fourth goal of the season off a feed from sophomore Molly McCann.

Just shy of a half-hour later, first-year Alina Friz scored for the second straight match, putting home her third goal of the season off assists from senior Olivia Castro and sophomore Luciana Rodrigues.

Angelini made it a three-point night with her second goal of the season in the 59th minute. Mount Saint Vincent (4-3-1) had a golden opportunity to spoil the shutout on a penalty kick in the 64th minute, but the offering sailed over the crossbar. Stevens' goalkeepers Kenny Donley and graduate student Madelyn Nau were pressed into duty only twice all night, denying each of the Dolphins' on-target attempts.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Ducks' five goals were their largest scoring output since a 7-1 win over Delaware Valley October 25 last season.
  • Stevens posted its largest shutout at home since November 2, 2019 against Eastern (5-0).
  • With the win, all four of Stevens' victories, and 11 out of its last 13 dating back to the start of last season, have come via shutout.
  • McCann's helper on Alley's goal was the first point of her collegiate career.
FROM THE FIELD
"That's a great performance to lead us into conference play. We were relentless for 90 minutes with the way we pressed and it really allowed us to play most of the game in their half. We have said all along that the goals will start to flow but it all starts with a really solid defensive foundation. We can't wait to start the conference on Saturday." - Head Coach Stuart Dick.

UP NEXT
Stevens opens MAC Freedom play Saturday, October 5 against in-state foe FDU-Florham at 2 p.m. from the DeBaun Athletic Complex. The Ducks are unbeaten in their last eight matches against the Devils dating back to 2003.
