HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats broke through for the opening tally in the fourth minute. Lily Wierzbicki made an initial save on a penalty corner attempt before Anna Cote netted the goal off an assist from Maria Femia. The Ducks had a pair of shots in the eighth minute, but Sarah Korczukowski had a shot blocked, and Smart pushed the rebound wide.

Wierzbicki kept it at a one-goal deficit in the second stanza, turning away a Femia shot in the 20th minute. The hosts continued to apply pressure, attempting two additional shots that did not reach Wierzbicki as the defense blocked them. Off a penalty corner late in the second quarter, the Ducks had two attempts at goal, but Sophia Cozza and Jess Kopernick had their shots blocked. Bates doubled their advantage with 1:47 left in the frame, as Anna Lindeis scored off a penalty corner.
