Women's Soccer Edged By No. 6 Misericordia 1-0 in MAC Freedom Championship Game

Dallas, Pa. – The second-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology fell 1-0 against top-seeded Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two sides jostled for possession over the first 19 minutes, as neither side registered a shot. Stevens had the opening chance as Alina Friz had a shot blocked in the 19th minute. After Sarah Wnorowski had an attempt blocked in the 28th minute, Gab Aloe had the first shot on target for either team in the 34th, which Lauren Mondor stopped. With just under seven minutes left in the opening period, Wnorowski pushed a try wide before the Cougars had their first attempt of the game go wide late in the frame.

The Ducks took a 6-1 edge in shots into the halftime break, while Misericordia took the lone corner kick of the first 45 minutes.

The scoreless battle waged on in the second half as Misericordia attempted to break through in the 49th minute as Kenny Donley turned away a Samantha Bardonner shot. Four minutes later, Nicole Angelini looked to score, but her try glanced off the crossbar. Stevens notched three shots in a 90-second span early on, with Sophia Murphy's shot stopped by Mondor.

The two sides traded shots on goal midway through the stanza, as Donley and Mondor were up to task with saves. In the 77th minute, Malia Chopra had the Ducks best chance of the day as her shot rang off the crossbar and went out of play.
Wnorowski had another big try in the 79th minute, as Mondor made the stop. Donley made two saves late in the game, but the Cougars broke through for the game-winning goal with 1:49 left in the second half. Madison Brdaric linked up with Olivia Maniskas in the box, and the low shot beat a diving Donley for the lone goal of the match.
