HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 17, 2024) - Sophomore Stefanie Sellitto scored six goals and added two assists, while senior Emily Leiby scored five times and provided two helpers, as the No. 12 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team defeated DeSales 22-4 in a MAC Freedom contest Wednesday night.
Stevens picked up another win as they improved to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in MAC Freedom play. With the win, Stevens improved to a perfect 7-0 at the DeBaun Athletic Complex this season. The Ducks are in sole possession of first place in the MAC Freedom standings. Stevens is now 4-0 all-time against the Bulldogs. DeSales drops to 10-3 and 3-1 in MAC Freedom play.
The first quarter belonged to the Ducks as they scored seven unanswered goals to lead 7-0 after one. Leiby scored just 67 seconds into the game off of an assist from Sellitto to get things started. Just over two minutes later, Sellitto scored her first of the game. The majority of the damage would come in the final 2:13 of the frame, as Stevens scored four between then and the end of the quarter. Sellitto tallied two of those goals while Leiby and junior Anna Velardi each had one. Stevens would carry that momentum over into the second, as Sellitto scored her third of the game and graduate student Zoe Cook recorded her second as the Ducks led 9-0 with 10:24 to go. After two quick DeSales goals, Stevens had four goals from four different players (Leiby, Sellitto, Zoe Cook, and sophomore Maddie Hogan) to close out the half as they led 13-2 at the break.
The halftime talk for the Bulldogs did not hit home as they recorded another quarter without a goal. Junior Alison Lax got herself onto the scoresheet for Stevens to start the third, as she scored with 12:30 on the clock. Almost six minutes later, Velardi netted her second of the game from a free-position. After another goal from Sellitto that put Stevens up 14, Leiby closed the frame with two goals as the Ducks led 18-2 after three. To start the fourth, sophomore Hana Yang tallied her second of the year. Four minutes later, she scored again, as she more than doubled her season tally in just this one game. At the 7:24 mark, first-year Margaret Palmer recorded her first career goal to put the Ducks up 18. Zoe Cook would add one more for the Ducks, as the team cruised to their 11th victory of the season.
