Softball Falls Twice to Montclair State

Both games finished 10-2 and ended in five innings.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (April 21, 2024) – First-year Emma Quattrochi had two hits, two RBI, and a run scored, as the Stevens Institute of Technology softball team lost to Montclair State 10-2 (F/5) in game one and 10-2 (F/5 in game two Sunday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader.

Sophomore Kyra Fischer (8-11) took the loss in game one. She pitched three and a third inning and gave up eight runs on seven hits. Sophomore Ashley Allen pitched the other two-thirds innings, giving up two hits and two runs.

Sophomore Ella Tozduman (3-4) earned the loss in game two. She pitched three and two-thirds innings and gave up eight runs on eight hits. First-year Jay Morales pitched the other third of an inning, as they allowed two runs on three hits.

The Ducks (14-18) closed out the road portion of their schedule with a record. The Ducks have lost eight of their last nine non-conference games. Stevens has also lost seven of their last eight games overall. With the two losses, Stevens is now 2-4 all-time against the Red Hawks. Montclair State improved to 15-20 with the victories.

The Rundown (Game 1)

  • The Red Hawks scored twice in the bottom of the first.
  • Montclair State added two more in the third.
  • The home side blew things open with six in the fourth to go up 10-0.
  • First-year Emma Quattrochi hit an RBI double in the top of the fifth, while the Ducks added another via an error.

The Rundown (Game 2)

  • Montclair State scored two runs in the bottom of the first.
  • Stevens got one back in the top of the second. Montclair State had three errors in the inning, which allowed the Ducks to get back within one.
  • The Ducks tied the game in the top of the fourth. Junior Megan Curtis walked to start the inning, and she moved to second after a sacrifice bunt. Graduate student Elise Fauske later singled to move Curtis to third. Similar to the first game, Quattrochi delivered again, as she recorded an RBI single to tie the game at two.
  • The Red Hawks scored six in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth as they secured their second-straight five inning win.

  • Curtis scored two runs.
  • Pikul had one hit and a run scored.
  • Albano and Fauske totaled three hits.
  • Senior Carolyn Yahn had one hit.
  • Stevens committed five errors.

For the Opponents

  • Ali Cavallaro (5-11) earned the win in game one. She pitched four innings and gave up just two hits.
  • Stephanie Seretis (2-0) picked up the win in game two. She pitched four innings and allowed two runs on five hits.
  • Seretis had five RBI, four hits, and three runs scored.
  • Julianna Casillas scored four runs, picked up three hits, and had three RBI.
  • Kayla Cosentino tallied five hits, four runs scored, and three RBI.
