No. 14 Women's Lacrosse Wins MAC Freedom Championship With 19-4 Victory Over Lebanon Valley

The Ducks have claimed three-straight MAC Freedom titles.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 4, 2024) - Sophomore Stefanie Sellitto scored seven goals and added an assist as the No. 14 and #1 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team beat #2 Lebanon Valley 19-4 in the MAC Freedom title game Saturday night at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

Sellitto was named the championship MVP.

Stevens (16-3) has now won three-straight MAC Freedom Championships and have earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It is the first time in program history that the Ducks have appeared in three-straight NCAA Tournaments. The Ducks head into the big dance on a four-game winning streak. Lebanon Valley finishes the year 12-7.

Stevens dominated from the opening whistle as they scored two goals inside the first minute. Graduate student Zoe Cook scored 36 seconds in and 60 seconds in to put the Ducks in front. Zoe Cook turned provider on the next goal, as she assisted junior Rebecca Guerra with 12:50 to go. The two Emily's, senior Emily Leiby and junior Emily Smart, connected for the next two goals for Stevens, with each individual getting a goal and an assist. Sellitto jumped into the action at the 6:32 mark, as her goal put the Ducks up six. First-year Tory Seaton added two before the quarter ended as the Ducks led 8-0 after one. The second quarter saw continued success for the home side, as Sellitto buried a free-position attempt early to extend the lead to nine. Lebanon Valley would get the next goal on the board, which would be their first of the game, but Sellitto would answer with quick back-to-back goals to put the Ducks up ten and start the running clock. Stevens would end the half with two goals from junior Alison Lax, as they took a 13-1 advantage into the half.

Lebanon Valley scored the first goal of the half as they tried to get back into the game. That would not happen though, as later in the quarter, Leiby scored two goals in a 100 second span that put Stevens up 15-2. Selitto would add another for Stevens before the siren sounded as the Ducks held a commanding 16-2 lead after three. The Dutchmen were then able to start the fourth by getting their third goal of the game. Sellitto would respond however, as she bumped the Duck lead back up to 14. The deficit would be too much for the Dutchmen to overcome, as the Ducks added a few more goals down the stretch to secure the victory.
