HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team exploded for a season-high six goals in a 6-1 win over Arcadia in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play Saturday afternoon.
Stevens (5-3-6, 2-1 MACF) got goals from five different players, doubling its previous season-high scoring output against an Arcadia (8-2-3, 1-1-1 MACF) that had allowed four goals all season coming in.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens recorded just one shot in the opening 16 minutes, but made the most of two in the following five minutes.
First, in the 17
th minute,
Luciana Rodrigues tapped home a rebound of an initial
Sophia Murphy shot past Arcadia keeper Abigail Fuchs. Then, in the 21
st minute,
Abby Davis dribbled between two defenders then put a shot right through the arms of Fuchs. Arcadia halved the lead in the 35
th minute, that score holding to the end of a first half that was nearly even on the scoresheet, with the Knights holding a 9-8 edge in shots and each side drawing five corner kicks.
Stevens' monster second half started in the 51
st minute when
Alana Odom beat a pair of Arcadia defenders AND Fuchs to a ball in the box, putting one home through contact off assists from Davis and Rodrigues. Just over five minutes later, Davis completed her brace, finishing a fantastic individual effort following a long run to the top of the box both through and around several Knights.
Less than five minutes after Davis' second, Murphy, with her back to the goal, corralled a ball into the box, turned and tucked a roller just inside the right post, giving
Angela Dinh her first point of the day and Rodrigues her second assist/fourth point.
In the 81
st minute, Victoria Perelli delivered a pinpoint corner kick just beyond the reach of Fuchs and between two defenders right to the head of
Alina Friz who easily re-directed the ball over the goal line.
In all, the Ducks finished the second half with advantages of 12-5 in shots and 7-0 on corners.
