HOBOKEN, N.J. – Alana Odom recorded a first-half brace,
Sarah Wnorowski finished with two assists off corner kicks, and the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team clinched a MAC Freedom Tournament berth with a 4-0 win over DeSales Wednesday night from DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Stevens (8-3-6, 5-1 MACF) took advantage of Odom's early goals to control much of the action, finishing with a 31-3 advantage in shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After an early penalty kick was turned aside by DeSales' goalkeeper Campbell Pacheco, the Ducks finally broke the ice in the 31
st minute.
Off a failed clearance from the Bulldogs, Odom and
Sophia Murphy worked a give and go, with Odom tapping home Murphy's ball into the box just in front of a charging Pacheco.
90 seconds later, off an
Alina Friz corner kick from the far side of the field, Odom found an opening in the Bulldogs defense and headed home the curving cross from inside five yards.
The cushion ballooned to three in the 43
rd minute when Wnorowski delivered a corner from the near side to the top of the six-yard box for
Hanna Kusinski, who used every inch of her 5-11 frame, heading one just inside the left post.
After finishing the first half with an 11-1 shot advantage, the Ducks came even harder in the second half, finishing the final 45 with a decisive 20-2 advantage, 11 of them on-target forcing 20 saves from Pacheco.
The one on-target attempt Pacheco did not get came off a Wnorowski corner kick in the 67
th minute. From the far side, Wnorowski curved one that hit halfway up the inside of the near side post, deflecting to the feet of Friz, then re-directing over the goal line.
