Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team hit a blistering .410 to sweep Arcadia University 3-0 Tuesday in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play.
The Ducks (16-8, 5-1 MAC Freedom) topped the Knights by scores of 25-11, 25-13, and 25-12 to record their fourth consecutive victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite falling behind 2-0 early,
Ella Kraver fueled a six-point run from the service line to put Stevens in front. She stopped the Arcadia surge with a kill, then delivered consecutive aces before first-year
Alyssa O'Neal added three straight kills. Arcadia cut the deficit to 10-6, but the Ducks responded with a 10-2 spurt to pull away.
Sarah Bolduc and
Vivian Lisboa each tallied multiple kills during the run to break the set open. Back-to-back aces from Lisboa made it 23-9, and O'Neal capped the opening frame with a kill from
Molly Harris.
In the second set, consecutive attack errors and a double block by Bolduc and
Eva Tarolli helped Stevens jump out to an 8-3 advantage as part of an 11-4 start. The Ducks were efficient throughout the night, committing just four attack errors through the first two sets. Arcadia drew within 21-13 late, but Stevens closed with four straight points, including a Kraver ace to seal the set.
Trailing 4-2 in the third,
Kileen McNeill sparked a 5-0 run with a kill, with Kraver and
Ella Boland adding additional kills. After trading points midway through the frame, Stevens took control with a 7-1 stretch punctuated by a Lisboa ace to make it 20-9. Harris followed with an ace to bring up match point, and after Arcadia fought off two, Boland hammered home the final kill from
Lianna Schmieder to clinch the sweep.
