HOBOKEN, N.J. – Ella Kraver finished with a double-double, one of three players with at least 10 kills for the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team Wednesday night in a sweep of FDU-Florham in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest.
Stevens (9-7, 2-1 MACF) won 25-23, 25-20, and 25-19 for its 10
th straight win over the Devils, during which time they've only dropped two sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set featured three lead changes across the first 19 points. Kraver,
Ella Boland, and
Alexa Brucculeri had kills early, but FDU-Florham took a 7-5 lead. Additional kills by Boland,
Alyssa O'Neal, and
Vivian Lisboa (two) knotted things at nine. Two FDU attack errors, a Lisboa service ace, and Kraver kill put the Ducks up 13-9. The lead grew to 19-12 and, despite a late rally that saw FDU close to 23-22, a Boland kill and Devils' service error gave the Ducks an early 1-0 lead. Boland finished the set with five kills, Kraver and Lisboa added three apiece.
Stevens jumped out to a 4-1 second set lead, Lisboa notching a kill and back-to-back service aces during that stretch. Kraver sandwiched a kill and an ace around a Tarolli kill and two FDU attack errors put the Ducks up 10-4. Two more FDU attack errors, two more Lisboa kills and another O'Neal kill helped the Ducks keep the opposition at bay, 15-11. The Devils closed to within a pair on a trio of occasions (15-13, 18-16, 22-20), but two kills from O'Neal and three from Kraver, including set point, put the Ducks one set from the sweep.
FDU seemed determined to push the match to four, taking a 15-9 lead in the third, but the Ducks came roaring back. Kraver and Bolan had two kills each, helping lead an 11-1 run that put the Ducks up 20-16 and drew a pair of timeouts from the FDU sideline. FDU got the first two points coming out of the timeout, but three Tarolli kills, a Kraver kill, and a service error closed out the set and the evening.
