No. 11 Field Hockey Gears Up For MAC Freedom Tournament With 6-0 Win Over FDU-Florham

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The No. 11 Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team closed out a phenomenal regular season in commanding fashion, rolling past FDU-Florham 6–0 on Saturday from the DeBaun Athletic Complex. The Ducks' relentless attack and unblemished defense capped an undefeated MAC Freedom slate (7-0) and improved their overall record to 16–2 heading into postseason play.

Having already clinched the MAC Freedom regular season title with a win over Misericordia on Wednesday, Stevens capped a second unbeaten conference campaign in three seasons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
From the opening whistle, Stevens dictated how the proceeding 60 minutes would go. Brooke Hughes struck first midway through the opening quarter, burying a feed from Taylor Brooks at the 11:48 mark to get the Ducks on the board. Stevens doubled its advantage early in the second quarter when Lauren converted off a corner she'd initially inserted, finishing a setup from Jenna Piantieri. Less than two minutes later, Gabi Moroney etched her name in program history with her 100th career point, converting a Molly DiCampli assist for a 3-0 Stevens lead.

The Ducks' forward line pressed high, forcing repeated penalty corners that kept the Devils pinned in their own end. The Ducks generated nine corners in the frame and outshot FDU 19-0 through the first two periods, keeping their foot on the gas well into the second half.

Hughes notched her second goal of the day just shy of five minutes gone in the third corner, slotting home a feed from Aleah Dinmore. Just six minutes later, Jess Kopernick found the back of the cage off a pass from Sophia Cozza, stretching the margin to 5–0. The defensive unit, anchored by Dinmore, Flynn, and Emilia Lopes, continued to deny any hint of an FDU counterattack.

In the closing minutes, Cozza added a goal of her own — assisted by Kylee Scherer —punctuating a final shot count that read 46 to 0 in favor of the Ducks, with a 25-0 advantage in penalty corners.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Moroney became just the fifth Duck to reach the century mark with her second quarter goal
  • The 46 shots were the second most in a game in program history, eclipsed only by a 47-shot outing against Elmira in 2013
  • The 25 penalty corners were the most in a game since the second game of the 2023 season against Moravian, when the Ducks generated 27
  • Hughes notched her first two-goal game as a Duck
UP NEXT
The Ducks quest for another MAC Freedom Tournament championship continues with a semifinal clash with Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, November 5 at DeBaun, in the 1 v. 4 game at a time to-be-determined. Stevens won 2-1 in Annvilla, Pa. three weeks ago.
