Madison, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team went 4-2 at the Drew Invitational on Sunday.
The Ducks earned victories over Detroit Mercy (21-6), Cleveland State (18-9), Wheaton (Mass.) (19-8), and Drew (14-13), while falling to Haverford (15-12) and NJIT (19-8).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Epee led the way in the opener against Detroit Mercy with an 8-1 mark, while foil earned seven wins and sabre added six.
Donovan Aggeler went a perfect 3-0, with
Skanda Krishnan and
Riley Parker each finishing 2-0.
Kieran Jackson rounded out the group with one victory.
Liam Thomas paced foil with two wins, as
Dillon Miller and
David Trubetski each added one.
Ruilin Liu,
Spencer Depew, and
Chinli Ong all notched wins at sabre.
Against Cleveland State, Depew, Liu, and Ong each recorded identical 2-1 marks at sabre, while Miller went a perfect 3-0 at foil.
Ricardo Pires and
Nick Reznick both posted 2-1 records, and Krishnan and Parker tallied two wins apiece at epee. Aggeler rounded out the winners at 1-2.
The sabre squad dominated Wheaton with an 8-1 performance, as epee added seven wins. Liu and Depew each went 3-0, with Ong contributing two victories. Krishnan went 2-1 at epee, while Aggeler and Parker added one apiece. At foil, Trubetski led with two wins as Pires and Thomas each earned one.
Stevens edged host Drew with 6-3 decisions at both foil and sabre. Trubetski, Reznick, and
Dev Badlani each went 2-1 at foil, while Depew, Liu, and Ong matched that mark at sabre. Krishnan and Aggeler added solo victories at epee to secure the narrow team win. Against Haverford, Stevens gained six victories at sabre, led by Liu's perfect 3-0 mark. Parker tallied two wins at epee, while Ong added two more at sabre.
