Doylestown, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team closed the regular season in style, blanking Delaware Valley University 8–0 Saturday evening.
The Ducks (9-3-6, 6-1-0 MAC Freedom) poured in four goals in each half, outshooting the Aggies 48–3 (25–1 on frame) while holding an 11–0 advantage in corner kicks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lauren Alley produced the first shot on goal for Stevens in the fourth minute, but her attempt was turned away by Nicole Ocejo. The Ducks broke through in the eighth minute, as
Molly McCann recorded her second goal of the season.
Sophia Murphy won possession in the attacking third and found
Kaitlyn Pettit, who slipped the ball to Alley. The senior beat a defender before feeding McCann, who buried the close-range try to give Stevens a 1-0 lead.
The Ducks doubled the margin just over four minutes later, with the roles reversed. Murphy beat a defender in the midfield and sent a low pass into the 18-yard box that McCann chased down. After drawing the goalkeeper off her line, McCann dished to Alley, who tapped the ball into the vacated net. Stevens continued to pepper Delaware Valley with shots but didn't add another tally until the 36th minute.
Stella Genin's initial header was stopped, but the newcomer tracked down her own rebound and slid a short pass to
Alina Friz, who finished low to extend the lead to 3-0. The Ducks capped their first-half barrage with 4:03 remaining when
Diana Cavalieri chested a ball down in the midfield and sprung
Sarah Wnorowski down the left flank. Wnorowski kept the ball in play, maneuvered around a defender, and ripped a 10-yard shot into the far corner to make it 4-0.
Stevens dominated the first half, holding an 18-0 edge in shots and taking all six corner kicks.
The Ducks continued to apply pressure after the break and netted their fifth goal in the 53rd minute. Off a throw-in, Friz sent a cross into the box where
Alana Odom flicked a quick shot into the upper part of the goal. Odom struck again in the 61st minute after Wnorowski weaved through defenders on the left side and set her up for a high finish into the left side of the net.
Wnorowski added her second goal of the day in the 63rd minute.
Mia Sena gained possession at midfield and threaded a perfect pass into space down the left side. Wnorowski ran it down and fired a left-footed shot inside the near post to make it 7-0.
Madison Giuliano capped the scoring with 3:32 left, one-timing a feed from Friz into the back of the net.
