Women’s Soccer Advances to MAC Freedom Final on Alley’s 90th Minute Winner

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Lauren Alley scored with 15 seconds left in regulation, giving the No. 2 seed Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team a thrilling 2-1 victory over No. 3 Lebanon Valley in the MAC Freedom semifinals Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sarah Wnorowski put the Ducks up early, using some fancy footwork and ball control to bury a tough angle shot from the near side of the six-yard box across the goal just inside the far side post.

In the 12th minute, Taylor Truglia just missed putting Stevens (10-3-6) up 2-0, hitting the crossbar with a free kick.
Between the end of the 29th and start of the 30th minute, after struggling to create chances early, Lebanon Valley hit the crossbar, had a shot blocked off the ricochet, then scored off the re-direct from the blocked shot, knotting things at one.

The Ducks came out kicking in the second half, recording six shots inside the first 10 minutes, with Wnorowski, Molly McCann, and Malia Chopra forcing saves from Dutchmen keeper Camryn Porter; Truglia added a seventh shot in the 58th, replicating her effort from the first half – hitting the crossbar with a free kick. As the minutes ticked away, Stevens registered an additional nine shots (part of a 17-shot effort in just the second half alone) but were unable to put one past Porter.

As the match entered the 90th minute, then the final 30 seconds, Sophia Murphy raced back toward midfield from the offensive end and stole possession away from the Dutchmen. Murphy played ahead for Wnorowski, who dribbled to just outside the 18-yard box. After working a give-and-go with Alina Friz, Wnorowski played one into an unmarked Alley just outside of the six-yard box, who bounced a left-footed attempt off the outstretched hand of Porter and in, igniting a pair of celebrations from the Ducks' reserves on the sidelines as well as the 11 on the pitch.

The Dutchmen's last-second desperation effort to tie off the ensuing kickoff fell short, as Stevens clinched a sixth straight MAC Freedom Final berth.
