New York, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team closed out the two-day NYU Invitational Saturday in second place with a team total of 256 points, finishing behind NYU (578) and ahead of Drew (225).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Angel Velasquez touched first in the 100-meter breaststroke in 57.98, just .15 seconds ahead of the runner-up;
Lukas Mikulenas gave the Ducks two Top-4 finishers in the event, finishing in 58.36.
Deo Bove (100-yard butterfly, 51.23),
Ethan Emerton (200-yard backstroke, 1:53.07),
Will Stibor (100-yard freestyle, 47.25), Velasquez (200-yard breaststroke, 2:09.51), all took second in their respective individual events. The 200-yard medley relay team of Velasquez/Mikulenas/Bove/Stibor also took second in one of the first events of the day.
In addition to the myriad of runner-up finishes,
Cooper Moffatt took third in the 1650-yard freestyle in 16:36.74 and Mikulenas finished right behind Velasquez in the 200 breast in 2:10.03.
The 800-yard (Bove/Stibor/
Niall Easton/Sebastien Nappi) and 400-yard (Nappi/Velasquez/Bove/Stibor) freestyle relay teams each finished fourth, the 800-yard group finishing in 7:15.24 and the 400-yard foursome finishing in 3:13.11. Individual fourth-place finishers included Emerton's 4:15.40 in the 400-yard individual medley, Mikulenas' 58.36 in the 100 breast, and Bove's 1:59.52 in the 200 free.
