Men's Fencing Goes 2-1 At MACFA Group B Round Robin

Hoboken, NJ – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team went 2-1 at the MACFA Group B Round Robin on Sunday afternoon.

Stevens fell 14-13 to NJIT in the second bout but secured convincing wins over Hunter (26-1) and Yeshiva (23-4).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens opened the day with a 26-1 triumph over Hunter College. Both sabre and epee were a 9-0 perfect against the Hawks. Tyler Komentani, Spencer Depew, and Chinli Ong went 1-0 at sabre, with Stevens collecting six additional forfeit victories. Jose Martinez-Ponce and Erik Marren went 3-0 at epee, with Nicholas Smith, Noah Tumibay, and Andrew Yurovchak adding one. Stevens finished the win against Hunter with an 8-1 mark at foil. Aden Vishnevsky and Alan Hu earned three wins, while Nick Reznick and Rocco Mathews each added one.

Stevens fell to NJIT 14-13 in the day's second match but notched wins at foil (6-3) and epee (5-4). Reznick went 3-0 at foil, as Mathews went 2-1, with Dev Badlani adding the final win for the foil group. The Ducks squeaked out a 5-4 win at epee, led by two victories from Tumibay and Smith and one from Yurovchak. At sabre, Colin Mahoney and Depew notched victories for Stevens.

The Ducks went unblemished at sabre against the Maccabees, with Ong, Depew, and Kometani each earning three victories. Epee and foil each went 7-2 to close out the win over Yeshiva. Graham Shamberger and Vishnevsky went 3-0 at foil, as Evan Peneiras tallied a win. Marren went 3-0 at epee, with Riley Parker and Esat Adiloglu recording two wins to finish the victories for Stevens.

The Ducks host the MACFA Group B vs. Group C matchup next Sunday inside Canavan Arena and Walker Gym, with the action getting started at 10 am.
