Dallas, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team fell to Misericordia University in both ends of a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom doubleheader on Sunday.
Stevens (20-20, 9-5 MAC Freedom) fell 11-1 in six innings in the opener before dropping a 10-2 decision in game two to the Cougars.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Stevens put two runners on but failed to score in the first, Misericordia opened up a 2-0 lead after two innings. They scored once in the first on a sacrifice fly and added an RBI double in the second. Stevens cut the lead in half in the third, as
Jessica Guerrero launched a solo home run to left-center, making it 2-1.
Kyra Fischer set the Cougars down in order in the third, including a pair of strikeouts to close out the frame. Misericordia added to their lead with an RBI single in the fourth, but further damage was prevented as the Ducks cut down a runner at third base. Misericordia broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth, scoring eight runs on five hits, including a pair of home runs.
The Ducks opened game two with a hit as
Megan Curtis led off with a knock to right field. Curtis moved to second on a bunt and to third on a groundout but was stranded as a ground ball to first ended the inning. Misericordia took advantage of two first-inning errors to score four unearned runs, going up 4-0 after one.
The Cougars added to their lead in the second, scoring four additional runs on back-to-back hits after a pair of fielding errors by Stevens.
Ella Tozduman entered in relief and closed out the second with a strikeout and a groundout. Stevens pushed a run across in the top of the third, as singles from Curtis,
Madison Subbiondo, and
Emma Quattrochi loaded the bases with one out.
Jessica Hsu lofted a fly ball to center, scoring Curtis to make it 8-1.
The home side tacked on an unearned run in the bottom of the third before Hsu made it 9-2 with an RBI single to right-center in the fifth. Stevens went scoreless in the sixth before Misericordia added one final run to close out game two.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Guerrero, Emma Quattrochi, and Riley Lawrence had the lone hits in game one.
- Guerrero's home run was her second of the season and the 10th of her career. The senior also reached 40 hits in a season for the second time in her career.
- Fischer struck out six over five innings in the opener.
- Curtis went 3-for-3 in the second contest while scoring both of Stevens' runs.
- Carmelita Murphy-Brown went 2-for-3, while Hsu recorded both RBIs in the nightcap.

The Ducks will face Misericordia in the opening game of the 2025 MAC Freedom Tournament in Annville, Pa., on Thursday, with game time to be determined.
