Women’s Lacrosse Dominates Misericordia, 20-1, in MAC Freedom Semifinal

Ducks to Play for Fourth Straight Conference Championship Saturday

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team continued its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom dominance with a 20-1 win in the conference's Tournament semifinals Wednesday afternoon against Misericordia from DeBaun Athletic Complex.

#1 Stevens (14-4) outscored the #4 Cougars 12-0 after the first quarter, scoring the final 17 goals of the game. Emily Leiby had a game-high six points and was one of three Ducks with four-goal days, joined by Maddie Hogan and Stefanie Sellitto. Emily Smart had a game-high four assists, Alina Friz had a goal and an assist, and Alison Lax had two goals, rounding out the Stevens' multi-point scorers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens went scoreless for the first three minutes but caught fire (repeatedly) shortly thereafter. Hogan, Sellitto, and Anna Velardi all scored just 1:093 apart, putting the Ducks up 3-0 at the 10:35 mark.

Misericordia got one back just past six minutes gone in the quarter but Hogan added her second of the day and Leiby followed a Rebecca Guerra goal just 35 seconds later, opening a five-goal cushion at the 4:51 mark. Sellitto and Hogan added player-up goals in the final two minutes of the period.

Sellitto opened the second quarter scoring then, after a 7+ minute scoring drought, Leiby and Lax scored 17 seconds apart, initiating the 10-goal running clock. Hogan and Leiby added two more goals in the final three minutes, sending the Ducks to the locker room up 13-1.

The third quarter played out much like the first two, the Stevens defense holding Misericordia to a single shot while adding four more goals to its lead, courtesy of Velardi, Lax, Sellitto, and Alison Murray.

With the game well in hand, Friz, Leiby, and Colleen Ginsberg all found the net over the final 15 minutes as the Ducks hit 20 goals for the sixth time in their last nine games and 17th time in their last 27 MAC Freedom regular season and postseason games, dating back to the start of the 2023 season.
