Softball Clipped By Ramapo In Twinbill

Mahwah, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Ramapo College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Ducks (14-16) fell 4-1 in the opener before dropping a tightly contested 2-1 game in eight innings in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kyra Fischer ran into early trouble in game one, putting runners on first and second with one out in the first inning. She escaped the jam unscathed, striking out the next two batters. Stevens struck first in the second inning for its only run of the game. Rachael Prescott walked with one out and advanced to third on a double down the left field line by Isabella Won. Riley Lawrence then drove Prescott in with an infield single to shortstop, giving the Ducks a 1-0 lead.

Ramapo responded with three runs in the third. A leadoff double brought in the tying run, and the Roadrunners added two more on a wild pitch and a single through the left side. Fischer settled in afterward, retiring eight straight, but Ramapo added a final run on a groundout in the sixth. Stevens went down in order in the seventh, sealing a 4-1 win for the hosts.

In game two, Stevens again got on the board early. Megan Curtis led off the game with a triple down the right field line, and Madison Subbiondo brought her home with a perfectly placed bunt single. Jessica Hsu walked the first batter she faced but settled down to retire the next three, including a strikeout to end the frame.

Ramapo threatened in the second, putting runners on second and third following a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a pair of sacrifice bunts. Hsu rose to the occasion, notching a strikeout to escape the inning. Emma Quattrochi singled to lead off the fourth and moved to second on a bunt by Hsu. She advanced to third on a groundout but was stranded there as the inning ended.

Hsu retired six straight heading into the sixth but allowed a leadoff single. The rookie recovered, retiring the next three batters. Ramapo tied the game with two outs in the seventh, as Marissa DiPaolo singled in the equalizer. Stevens was held scoreless in the top of the eighth, and Ramapo plated the game-winning run on a fielder's choice in the bottom half of the inning.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Fischer struck out four in a complete-game effort, allowing six hits and two walks.
Won and Lawrence recorded Stevens' only hits in game one.
