Women's Soccer Draws With Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 1-1, in 2025 Season Opener

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team opened the 2025 season with a 1-1 draw against reigning Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) champions Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Friday afternoon at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Athenas struck first just over four minutes into the contest, but the Ducks answered back almost immediately. Sarah Wnorowski delivered a corner kick that found Diana Cavalieri near the top of the 18-yard box. Cavalieri sent a shot toward the left post that was initially denied, but the Athenas back line could not clear off the goal line as a series of deflections resulted in the ball clipping the net just inside the post.

The Ducks produced two additional on-target attempts in the opening 45, highlighted by attempts from sophomore Alina Friz and classmate Hanna Kusinski, the latter's header off another corner requiring a leaping save from CMS keeper Sadie Brown.

In the second half, Donley turned in a commanding performance between the pipes, stopping five shots, including one on an Athenas' breakaway opportunity. The senior finished the day with eight saves.

The Ducks created scoring chances of their own, with seniors Sarah Wnorowski and Lauren Alley, as well as sophomore Sophia Murphy each testing Brown between the 50th and 80th minute, though the second half ended the same way the first did, with the score all knotted at one.

Kusinski and Cavalieri anchored a defensive unit that weathered 12 CMS shots to preserve the draw.

  • Donley's eight saves matched her career high initially set against Misericordia in the 2023 MAC Freedom Championship Game.

  • First-years Abby Davis, Stella Genin, and Mia Sena all saw action in their Ducks' debuts, as did graduate transfer Alana Odom.
