Field Hockey Takes Down No. 10 York 2-1

Victory Was Highest Ranked Win In Program History

York, Pa. – Junior Aleah Dinmore and Sophia Cozza each found the back of the cage as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team opened its 2025 season with a 2-1 road victory over No. 10 York College (Pa.) Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
York opened the scoring midway through the first quarter, but Stevens answered just over two minutes later. Dinmore redirected a shot off a corner from junior Jess Kopernick for the Ducks' first tally of the season and the first of her collegiate career. Stevens continued to push following the equalizer, with attempts from Taylor Brooks and Molly DiCampli keeping pressure on the Spartan cage. Goalkeeper Lily Wierzbicki added a key save late in the frame to send the teams to the first break tied at one.

The Ducks grabbed the lead for good early in the second when Cozza finished a setup from Brooks for her first marker of the season and the 16th of her career. Wierzbicki turned aside two York attempts later in the frame, while Gabi Moroney registered another shot on target to keep Stevens on the front foot. The Ducks carried their 2-1 advantage into halftime.

Defense controlled much of the second half. The Stevens backline, anchored by Kylee Scherer,Emilia Lopes, Lauren Flynn, and Dinmore, limited York to just a pair of off-target attempts. Wierzbicki held firm on the lone shot on goal and the Ducks successfully defended two Spartan corners. Seeking insurance, Moroney and DiCampli each fired attempts toward the cage in the closing minutes, but Wierzbicki's fourth save of the night in the final moments denied York's last push and secured the season-opening victory for the Ducks.
