Madison, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team and Drew University fought to a 1-1 draw in non-conference action on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens controlled much of the first half, outshooting Drew 9-5 and generating three corner kicks. Early looks from
Sarah Wnorowski,
Kaitlyn Pettit, and
Luciana Rodrigues sailed just off target, while the Ducks forced Drew goalkeeper Dani Iannelli into three saves. Despite Stevens' pressure, the hosts struck first in the 33rd minute when Drew's Aimee Barsa finished a header off a corner from Kristina Lowe, sending the Rangers into halftime ahead 1-0.
The Ducks responded after the break. Just under 20 minutes into the second half,
Abby Davis played a ball from the top of the box to
Victoria Parelli, who broke free on goal and finished past the goalkeeper to level the match at 1-1. The equalizer capped an active attacking stretch where
Sophia Murphy and
Angela Dinh both tested Drew keeper Sarah Crowley.
Stevens continued to press forward with nine second-half shots and one final corner, but the back-and-forth play saw neither side find the go-ahead goal. Goalkeeper
Kenny Donley finished with four saves, including two in each half, to preserve the result.
