Haverford, Pa. – The No. 16 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team picked up a Top 25 road win over Haverford on Wednesday, knocking off the No. 25 Fords, 16-9.
How It Happened
The teams traded a pair of goals in the first quarter, with
Abby O'Brien and
Gracie Shea both finding the back of the next for the Ducks.
The second quarter featured a three-goal flurry over a 90-second span, as
Alison Murray scored for Stevens (5-3), who found themselves again down by a goal, 4-3 at the 12:00 mark, though the Ducks controlled the following seven minutes.
Stefanie Sellitto,
Alina Friz, Murray, and
Maddie Hogan all converted, shooting Stevens in front 7-4 with 5:13 left in the half. The Fords got a goal back, but the Ducks capped the monster quarter with four more, including three in the final 64 seconds from Murray, Sellitto, and Friz, respectively.
Just two goals were scored in the third quarter, both coming from the Ducks courtesy of Elise Hansley and Friz. O'Brien tacked on just 26 seconds into the fourth quarter as Stevens pushed the margin out to nine, 14-5.
The Haverford 20+ minute scoreless drought finally ended as the Fords pulled to within 14-9, but drew no closer as O'Brien added a late goal for the final tally of the game.
