Weehawken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader against NYU on Wednesday afternoon at Weehawken Waterfront Park.
The Ducks (12-8) opened the day with a 4-2 victory before completing the sweep with a 9-2 win in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens wasted no time in game one, scoring twice in the opening frame.
Emma Quattrochi was hit by a pitch to lead off and came around to score on a
Madison DiSarno single.
Carmelita Murphy-Brown later scored on a double to center by first-year
Isabela Lipsky to give the Ducks a 2-0 lead.
NYU evened the score in the third with a two-run single, but
Jessica Hsu limited the damage and kept the game tied. The Ducks responded in the bottom of the fourth, as
Riley Lawrence and
Allison Mitloff reached to start the inning before Murphy-Brown delivered a two-out single through the right side to score both runners and put Stevens back in front, 4-2.
Hsu handled the rest in the circle, retiring the Violets in order in the seventh to secure the complete game victory.
In game two, NYU struck first with a run on a fielder's choice in the opening inning. Stevens answered with two runs in the bottom half, as Mitloff legged out an infield single and Quattrochi followed with a sacrifice fly.
The Ducks broke the game open with a four-run third inning.
Jessica Hsu walked to lead off before Lipsky singled and Lawrence reached on an error to load the bases.
Kyra Fischer drove in a run with a single, Mitloff added another RBI knock, and Quattrochi capped the rally with a two-run single to right.
Lipsky added insurance in the fourth with a two-run home run to left field, extending the lead to 8-1. After NYU pushed across a run in the sixth, Stevens answered in the bottom of the frame, as Murphy-Brown tripled and scored on a Lipsky single to finalize the scoring. Fischer went the distance in game two, striking out four while allowing two runs on five hits.

- Hsu allowed just three hits and one walk in a complete game win in game one, recording 15 groundouts.
- Lawrence and Mitloff each had two hits in the opener, with Mitloff adding a walk and two stolen bases.
- Fischer struck out four in a complete game in game two, allowing five hits and two walks.
- Lipsky went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored in game two.
- Mitloff also went 3-for-3 with two RBI.
- Quattrochi drove in three runs, while Fischer and Hsu each scored twice.
- Fischer went the distance in game two, striking out four while allowing two runs on five hits.
