No. 16 Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Montclair, 18-8

Montclair, N.J. – The No. 16 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team used a dominant first half to cruise past Montclair State University, 18-8, on Friday night.

The Ducks (6-3) held a 33-16 edge in shots and forced 18 turnovers in the win over the Red Hawks (3-3).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens came out firing, scoring three goals in the opening 2:54. Abby O'Brien found the back of the net just 37 seconds in before Elise Hensley followed off an assist from Gracie Shea. Maddie Hogan capped the early run with a free-position goal. After Montclair got on the board, Stefanie Sellitto and Alina Friz responded with tallies for Stevens. The Ducks closed the opening quarter strong, as O'Brien and Hogan each scored in the final 1:40 to make it 7-1.

Stevens carried the momentum into the second, netting the first three goals of the quarter. Hogan scored twice during the stretch to complete her hat trick. Montclair briefly halted the run, but the Ducks answered with three more goals to end the half, including markers from Alison Murray and Colleen Ginsberg in the final minute to take a 13-3 lead into the break.
 
The teams traded goals early in the third before Sellitto pushed the lead to 15-4. Friz added another late in the quarter to send Stevens into the fourth up 16-5. Hensley and O'Brien extended the advantage to 13 midway through the final period, while Montclair scored the final three goals to account for the 18-8 final.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Friz totaled four goals and two assists, scoring on all four of her shots.
  • Hogan recorded her 150th career point and tied a season-high with five goals.
  • Colleen Ginsberg notched her first goal of the season.
  • Jana Bacero-Duncan made her collegiate debut, playing the final 15 minutes in goal.
  • Kailyn Vautour earned the win, playing the first half, while Felicity Heilferty made one save in relief.
