Softball Clipped by FDU-Florham 6-4 in MAC Freedom Tournament

Dallas, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team dropped a 6-4 decision to FDU-Florham in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FDU (23-12-1) struck first with a run in the bottom of the first before Stevens (24-15) answered in the third inning to take the lead. Carmelita Murphy-Brown singled to center with one out, and Jessica Hsu followed with an RBI double to tie the game at one. Isabela Lipsky kept the momentum going with a single to right, bringing home Hsu for a 2-1 advantage.

The Ducks added to their lead in the fourth. Isabelle Won led off with a single through the left side and moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Kacey DiPasquale. Emma Quattrochi then delivered an RBI single to score Won and make it 3-1. FDU-Florham responded in a big way in the bottom half of the inning, erupting for five runs to take a 6-3 lead and seize control of the game.

Stevens had an opportunity to answer in the fifth, loading the bases on a single and consecutive walks by Kyra Fischer and Won, but a groundout ended the threat. The Ducks mounted one final push in the seventh, as Lipsky doubled to left-center and later scored on an RBI single by Won. DiPasquale reached on an error to extend the inning, but a runner interference call brought the rally to an end.
