Newark, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday evening, falling to New York University 4-0 at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcolm Simon Stadium.
The Ducks (0-1-2) put six of their eight shots on target, including five attempts on goal over the final 12 minutes of the opening half, but were unable to find the back of the net. NYU (2-0-1) finished with a 24-8 advantage in shots and scored three times in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens generated the first shot on goal of the match less than four minutes in when
Alana Odom tested the NYU goalkeeper from in close, who made the save. The Violets responded with several opportunities of their own, but the Ducks kept the match scoreless through the opening 29 minutes. NYU broke through at the 29:03 mark to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
The Ducks responded by creating some of their best chances of the night over the remainder of the half.

Sophia Murphy each put attempts on goal less than a minute apart before
Mia Sena forced another save in the 37th minute.
Taylor Truglia added a shot on target with 29 seconds remaining before halftime, but the goalie made the stop to preserve NYU's one-goal lead.
NYU controlled possession to begin the second half, recording six shots and four corner kicks over the opening 20 minutes.
Sydney Lauffer, who entered in goal for Stevens at halftime, made back-to-back saves in the 56th and 58th minutes to keep the deficit at one. The Violets doubled their advantage in the 67th minute before adding another less than five minutes later.
Sophia Carr recorded Stevens' lone attempt of the second half in the 78th minute, sending her shot wide right. NYU closed out the scoring at 85:34 for the final 4-0 margin.

- Murphy led Stevens with three shots, putting two on goal, while Odom, Truglia, Sena and Shay each registered one shot on target.
- Lucy Smith made two saves while allowing one goal over the opening 45 minutes.
- Lauffer made her collegiate debut and played the second half and finished with three saves.
- The Ducks were outshot 24-8 and NYU held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Stevens continues its road swing Saturday, Sept. 12, when the Ducks travel to Middletown, Connecticut, to face Wesleyan University. Opening kick is scheduled for 3 p.m.
