Friz's 86th Minute Winner Pushes Women's Soccer Past Drew, 1-0

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2026 season Wednesday night, knocking off Drew, 1-0, at DeBaun Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens (1-5-3) controlled a large majority of the action in the first half, routinely holding possession in the Drew half of the field. After fighting through the Rangers' backline through the first 20 minutes, Alana Odom notched the first opportunity of the night for the Ducks in the 21st, flicking one over the crossbar from inside 12 yards. Four minutes later, from nearly the same spot, Molly McCann also flicked one over the bar.

Victoria Parelli had a look from the nearside about 10 yards out in the final two minutes of the half, recording the team's first on-target attempt of the match, but Drew keeper Hayden Scotti was well-positioned for the stop. Stevens keeper Maria O'Brien was called into action once in the first half, scooping up a shot off the ground in the 11th minute.

The Ducks continued to press Drew's backline throughout the second half. Odom had a look from the top of the 18-yard box less than two minutes off the restart but missed wide right. In the 66th, Sophia Murphy took a pass from Kaitlyn Pettit that traveled through the legs of Olivia Hoover and fired one from the top of the box, but her attempt found the arms of Scotti. Murphy had another look from about 25 yards out in the 80th minute, but sailed it over the crossbar.

Finally, in the 86th minute, a Malia Chopra corner kick found the head of Diana Cavalieri, then bounced at the foot of Alina Friz, who took advantage of an out-of-position Scotti and volleyed it over the heads of several Drew defenders and into the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.
