Daniel Thuer joined the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2008 season. He is currently in his third year with the Ducks.
Last year, Thuer assisted the Ducks in winning their second Empire 8 crown and advancing to the NCAA's. The team finished 17-4 and is now 36-8 in his time on the staff. Seven players were named all-conference in '09 and four were named All-North Atlantic Region.
In his first season, Thuer helped guide the Ducks to a program-best record of 19-4 and their first conference championship. He also was a part of the first NCAA Tournament appearance and victory in Stevens field hockey history, in addition to the first-ever national ranking.
A native of Germany, Thuer has gained most of his playing and coaching experience in his home country. He had been a starter from 2002-07 on Hoechster THC and is certified by the German Field Hockey Association (DHB). He has also been heavily involved in the coaching of young men and women for the better part of the last seven years.
Since moving to New York in 2007, Thuer has been playing for the Greenwich Field Hockey Club, and is currently working as an analyst for Lufthansa German Airlines in East Meadow, N.Y.
Thuer holds a Master of Science in Business Administration from the European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel, Germany.
