Head Field Hockey Coach Emily Beach named Lauren Powley her assistant coach on May 26, 2011. A graduate of the University of Maryland (College Park), Powley helped lead the Terrapins to an NCAA Division I championship and was a five-year member of the United States national team.
“I am thrilled to be able to announce the hiring of Lauren Powley,” said Beach. “She brings with her a wealth of playing and coaching experience and will make an immediate impact on our program.”
As a player, Powley played in the 2006 World Cup and 2008 Beijing Olympics for Team USA in addition to participating in the Pan-American games in 2007 and the Junior World Cup in 2005.
Most recently, Powley has been in the Netherlands playing for the Hurley Club and coaching three youth teams and one U-18 women’s team.
She also co-founded Kapow Field Hockey which caters to beginnings to elite players and conducts tournaments, camps, and more in addition to an indoor hockey club in Northern Pennsylvania. She also takes care of the marketing, organizing, accounting, and management aspects in this venture.
Powley was a student assistant coach for the Terrapins in 2006 after using all of her intercollegiate eligibility where her responsibilities included practice preparation, game-planning, travel schedules, and all day-to-day items involved in coaching collegiate field hockey. The Mountaintop, Pa. native also coached Advanced Play Field Hockey Camps in College Park while earning her degree in Kinesiology.
"I am extremely excited to put to use the knowledge and experiences I have gained through competing at the collegiate and international level for the past 10 years,” commented Powley. “Stevens has all of the resources and support to continue developing a program that will remain successful for years to come."
At Stevens, Powley will be involved in all aspects of the program including practice planning and implementation, scouting, video work, travel, and recruiting among other responsibilities.
